What is a Double Stroller vs a Wagon Stroller?

Double Stroller:

A Double Stroller is a stroller that can travel with two children at once. There are multiple variations of double strollers available. There are double jogging strollers, standard strollers, lightweight/umbrella strollers and convertible strollers that can transition from 1 to 2 seats.

With the wide variety of Double Strollers some will be better for everyday on the go use, while others can be be suited for outdoor rougher terrain.

Depending on the model of stroller, the stroller will either have the seats be side-by-side or inline.

Wagon Stroller:

A Wagon Stroller is like a traditional wagon with a rectangular shape and four-wheels. However, a Wagon Stroller can have buckled seating for 2, 3 or 4 children.

Wagon Strollers have been made with the intention providing more storage capacity and durability in all-terrain.

They are capable of handling more weight and have a 5-point harness or seat belt to buckle your child in. Their four-wheels are usually larger than a regular stroller which aids in a more comfortable ride for your child and helps make it easier to push or pull for you.

Car Seat Compatible

Double Stroller: Yes

Depends on the model of Stroller. Not all double strollers allow for infants to be seated. Some have interchangeable stroller bases that allow for infant and toddler seating, both infant seating or both toddler seating.

Wagon: Yes

Depends on the model of Wagon. Wagons are more widely known to be better suited for children that are able to sit up on their own. However, there are wagon strollers on the market that have attachable bases that a car seat can snap into.

With the flat bottom of the wagon it can also allow for an infant to lay flat or even have tummy time while out and about.

Maneuverability and Portability

Double Stroller:

In comparison to standard strollers, Double Strollers are harder to maneuver through tight spaces, and not as easy to compact and store.

  • Side by side – Width can make it difficult to navigate through tight spaces.
  • Inline – Length can make maneuverability difficult.

In comparison to Wagon Strollers, Double strollers are typically considered smaller, easier to steer and fit through tight spaces, transport and store.

Wagons:

In comparison to Double Strollers, Wagon Strollers are not ideal for everyday travel. They are bulkier, more difficult to steer, push or pull, especially with one arm. They tend to be heavier and not easy to compact or fold.

All wagons have the same standard shape. There is a variety of sizes, some being larger and heavier and others being smaller and lighter. However, they really do not differ as much as double strollers can.

Longevity

Double Stroller:

If your family already knows they plan to expand it can be the better option to purchase a convertible stroller that can grow with you in order to get more years out of it. This can save your budget in the long run, instead of having to buy multiple strollers.

Wagons:

Wagons usually have more longevity because the age and weight limits are higher. Wagons also have the added option of using it to carry supplies when your child can no long use it.

Safety

Check the manufacturer book for safety features, the height and weight limits to ensure your child is traveling safely. Confirm that your stroller or wagon has a five-point safety harness, workable brakes, and a sturdy base.

Double Stroller:

  • 5-point harness
  • Children do not have as much capability to stand up or tumble out

Wagons:

  • 5-point harness
  • Great for children who can be trusted to stay seated. There is a lot more mobility within a wagon than a stroller which can lead to children standing up and tumbling out if not buckled.
  • The heavier and larger frame adds increased stability and the unlikely event of tipping over.

Both Double Strollers and Wagon Strollers have their advantages and disadvantages. However, both are have the ability to be transported comfortably and can offer a safe ride for your children. Considering all of the features above can help you decide which is a better fit for your family.
